The checklist
- Breathe and soften your body, especially jaw and shoulders
- Stay physically close if it feels safe and welcome
- Say one line, I am still here, I care about you, I want to stay close
- Avoid apologising repeatedly, it increases shame
- If you want to talk, keep it short, we can slow down, no pressure
- Later, consider whether sleep, alcohol, stress, or pressure were factors
