ED Red Flags, when To Seek Urgent Care, and When to Book a Clinician Review

ED is often frustrating, but it is rarely dangerous on its own. The main safety question is whether ED is happening alongside symptoms that suggest a more urgent health issue.

Seek urgent medical care if you have

  • Chest pain, severe shortness of breath, fainting, or severe dizziness
  • Sudden weakness, facial droop, or new neurological symptoms
  • Significant trauma to the pelvis or penis
  • A painful erection that does not go away
  • Severe pain, fever, or signs of infection

Book a clinician review if

  • ED has been persistent for weeks and is affecting confidence or relationships
  • You have new health symptoms such as fatigue, sleep problems, or mood changes
  • You have cardiovascular risk factors and have not had a health review recently
  • You suspect medications or supplements may be contributing
