Alcohol can feel like a shortcut to confidence, but for many men it is a mixed deal. It may reduce inhibitions early, then reduce sleep quality, increase anxiety the next day, and make erections or control less reliable.

Common patterns

  • More alcohol, less reliable erections later in the night
  • Sleep disruption, then lower desire and confidence the next day
  • Increased anxiety, rumination, or irritability after a big night
  • Rushing or pressure during sex when tired or intoxicated

A practical fortnight experiment

  • Reduce alcohol for two weeks
  • Protect sleep on most nights
  • Notice changes in mood, erections, and control
  • If you drink, avoid heavy late night drinking before intimacy if it is a trigger
