  • I care about you and I want us to feel close
  • I had a tough moment and I do not want to disappear into shame
  • Can we slow down and keep it relaxed for a bit
  • I want to stay connected with you

If your partner responds with worry

You can add, I am going to work on it, and if it keeps happening I will talk to a clinician. That is enough.
