PE Glossary, Plain English Terms You Might See Online

If you have spent time googling PE, you have probably seen a lot of jargon. Here is a simple glossary to make the language less intimidating.

Common terms

  • Premature ejaculation, ejaculation that happens sooner than desired, often with reduced sense of control and distress
  • Lifelong PE, present since early sexual experiences
  • Acquired PE, develops later after a period of more typical control
  • Arousal regulation, the ability to notice and influence how quickly arousal escalates
  • Performance anxiety, worry or pressure that increases nervous system speed
  • Stop start, pausing when close to reduce intensity, then continuing
  • Early cues, the first signs you are escalating, faster breathing, tension, urgency
  • Distress, the emotional impact, frustration, shame, avoidance
