Stop start and squeeze are two techniques that often come up in PE conversations. They can help some men, but only if you use them in a relaxed way. If they become a frantic attempt to control everything, they can increase anxiety.
What the Stop Start Method Involves
Stop start means you notice you are getting close, then you pause until the intensity drops slightly, then you continue. It is training, not punishment.
How the Squeeze Technique Works
Squeeze usually refers to applying gentle pressure to reduce intensity when you are close. If it causes pain or discomfort, do not do it. Gentle is the word.
What to Expect When Practising
- Practise without a strict time goal, think control, not minutes
- Use a pause as connection, kiss, breathe, touch elsewhere
- Communicate with your partner, tell them you are taking it slower
- If you notice anxiety rising, return to breathing and slow the pace
When to Combine Techniques With Clinical Support
If PE is persistent, or you feel stuck in a loop of pressure, a clinician can help you build a plan that fits your body and your relationship.
